SoD Tote Bag
Services: Clothing, Production, Logos, Typography
This project features a tote bag design created for the School of Design at DePaul University. The focus of the design is typography, using bold and thoughtful type choices to create a graphic that feels clean, modern, and recognizable. The goal was to design something universal that could be worn and used by anyone, while still feeling connected to the identity of the School of Design.
Project Overview
This design targets students in the school of design studying art. This design also targets staff like professors, advisors, and more that make education and the school of design possible. strategy The most common object found in the school of design is a pen. A pen is the beginning of every project. Sometimes you find it, lose it, break it, or it runs out of ink.
Challenges
One key challenge is creating a strong visual impact, while maintaining simplicity and clarity. The design must feel universal and approachable to a wide audience without becoming generic or losing its identity. Production limitations, such as ink colors, size, and printing methods, were also a huge challenge. Black ink was not available for this prototype, but going forward will be an alternative. Additionally, ensuring that typography remained legible when the tote is in use, folded, or filled was difficult.
Results
The final result of this project is a versatile tote bag design that can be printed in several color options, including black, gray, red, and blue. These colors were intentionally chosen to reflect DePaul University’s brand identity while also aligning with colors commonly found in everyday writing tools such as pens. This approach allows the design to feel both school-specific and universally recognizable, making it suitable for a wide range of users.
